Aside from our wonderful speakers, we will be giving out awards to our 2015 scholarship winners, sharing a sumptuous meal, having a great time bidding for items in our silent auction and, if that is not enough, we wil be dancing until the wee hours of the morning.
It promises to be a wonderful night of fun and excitement!

The CBWC London is honoured to have Dr. Rosemary Sadlier as our featured speaker for the night.
Rosemary Sadlier was born and raised in Toronto, and has a teaching degree and a graduate degree in social work. She has been president of the Ontario Black History Society since 1993, and was instrumental in making the celebration of Black History Month a national event in Canada. A noted author, her books work to highlight the historical contributions and experiences of Black people in Canada. Her much-praised titles include biographies of Harriet Tubman and Mary Ann Shadd and Leading the Way: Black Women in Toronto. Her latest is Harriet Tubman: Freedom Seeker, Freedom Leader. Sadlier lives and writes in Toronto.
We are pleased that the Honorable Mayor Matt Brown will be bringing us greeting on our 25th anniversary.
Mayor Matt Brown was sworn in as London’s 63rd Mayor on December 1st, 2014. He served as Councillor for Ward 7 from 2010-2014. Community service and civic participation is very important to Matt. He is a past-president of Childreach, past co-chair of Hyde Park Lions Club’s and North West Optimist Santa Claus Parade and a Steering Committee Member with the “Walk a Mile in Her Shoes” fundraising event for Women’s Community House. He currently sits on the Strategic Priorities and Policy Committee, the London Police Services Board, the Public Utility Commission, the London Economic Development Corporation Board, the London Convention Centre Board and the Western University Board of Governors.
Dr. Collins began her professional career as a professor of Biology at Dalhousie University. She then entered Law School at Western, being called to the bar in 1987. Janet served on Western's Board of Governors for two terms and has participated in several London community organizations. She has been president of the CBWC London chapter since 2014.
This endowment was established in November 2009 by The Congress of Black Women of Canada - London
Chapter to commemorate the achievement of notable alumna Dr. Marlene MacLeish, who is a Professor of Medical Education at Morehouse School of Medicine, Atlanta, Georgia, and Director of NASA's National Space Bio-medical Research Institute Education and Public Outreach Program.

Funds for this award have been collected from donations to and fundraising events by the Congress of Black Women of Canada - London Chapter. The purpose of this donation is to establish an endowment, of which the interest will be used to support one student annually. This award will be given to a part-time or
full-time student who has demonstrated an interest in community service to the African Canadian community.
To be eligible for this award, students must meet the following criteria:
The student will have successfully completed her secondary school studies or be enrolled at Brescia
University College and achieved an overall average of at least 70%;
Will have been involved or is willing to become involved in the Congress of Black Women of Canada
- London Chapter;
Must have demonstrated unmet financial need.
The Financial Aid Officer, as a member of the Scholarship, Awards and Bursaries Committee will select the recipient. The Officer will screen possible candidates and recommend an appropriate student that satisfies
the eligibility criteria. All individuals who contribute to this bursary fund will receive a charitable income tax receipt from Brescia University College Foundation (charitable registration #: 888206646 RR0001).

This scholarship was established in memory of the late Ms. Gwen Jenkins, founding President of the Congress of Black Women of Canada, London Chapter. It is awarded annually to mature female students from the London-Middlesex area pursuing post-secondary education.

Yaphet Raphael Robinson was struck by a car on May 22nd 2000 and slipped into a coma until his untimely passing on June 3 2000. The circumstances surrounding his death caused some racial tension in London, Ontario. To this end, CBWCL initiated a special award in 2001 to commemorate Yaphet as well as honour people who show commitment to upholding human rights within the city of London, Ontario.
For the past 25 years, the CBWC London has given out scholarships as a memorial to Kay Livingstone, the founder of the national organization. These scholarships are awarded to deserving Afro-Canadian Grade 12 students from the London-Middlesex area to pursue post-secondary studies in a field of their choosing.
